Weekend Guide: Washington, DC

Hey GlowGetters! We teamed up with Socialite, Chelsea, to create the ultimate weekend experience in Washington DC. The city is packed with lots of young professionals for the perfect networking getaway, birthday trip, or  even a cross country move. Here’s a full guide on how to spend Friday – Sunday in America’s Capital.

Fresh off the plane and want to do some exploring? Tour the Portrait Gallery. It’s FREE and beautiful! Plus you can grab lunch across the street from a variety of restaurants. It’s also great for photoshoots.

See the monuments at night. It’s absolutely beautiful, no tourists, and a great way to get your fitbit steps. Plus, it’s even better if you go to Happy Hour before and get a bit tipsy. Nothing says “Merica” better than venting your relationship problems to Lincoln drunk.

Boozy Brunch is at its finest in DC. It’s not legit if it doesn’t have bottomless, but you can frequently find friends and colleagues every Saturday and Sunday enjoying brunch. It’s a social event in itself.

Day Parties: Speaking of brunch, DC is poppin on Saturdays and Sundays with day parties. Most folks arrive between 2-3pm and party until whenever, but some start with brunch and join the party afterwards. Ozios, Gryphon, Dirty Martini, and Park are always good popular locations.

Explore and Bar Hop Adams Morgan and U Street bar scene. If you go to U Street, stop at Marvin’s. Also, if you bar hop make sure you people watch all the drunk folks on the street who are also bar hopping. You may meet a friend.

Eat Jumbo Slice after bar hoping in AdMo (Adams Morgan) or U Street. It’s debatable on where but my favorites are Duccini’s Pizza and Jumbo Slice. Warning! Do not eat Jumbo slice the morning after consumption or after 7am. It MUST be hot and fresh.

See the Cherry Blossoms. But only in the morning or late afternoon. Otherwise the tourists will kill you in herds.

Go to Kennedy Center for a show. If it’s an opera, go fancy but otherwise jeans are acceptable.

Bonus Tips:

In the summer, go to Jazz in the garden. It’s free and BYOB or you can buy alcohol there.

DC has a bar crawl for everything! Everything and every holiday. It’s good bang for your buck.

Moving to the area? Join a social league. DC is full of 35 and under’s who relocated so if you want a new boo, friends, or an interesting fitness, you can join a social league. You just need to be 21 and over to participate. Weekly folks play games and then go to the bar for specials after. United Social Sports (USS) is the organization and they have every sport at several times of the year. I’ve been playing dodgeball weekly for years.
