I get it, being confident isn’t always easy. Not comparing yourself to others can be a bit of a challenge, and you start to feel lost every now and then. Honestly, there’s no magic fix for this. It takes serious time and brain wiring to feel even remotely like Adriana Lima on the runway.
So what’s a girl to do?
ANSWER: Take daily steps to build your confidence. Every single day you need to evaluate how you feel, and how you can improve your life. Decide what the “perfect you” would do every day, and take strict action to bring the “perfect you” to life.
Here’s six ways you can build your confidence today:
1. Find What Makes You Feel Confident
This is STEP ONE!!! And it’s different for everyone. Your best friend may be most confident with a fresh manicure, and you may feel more confident wearing pink. Take time to discover what triggers your confidence and makes you feel like you can take on the world. Is it after you get a good night’s sleep? Is it when you spend time with a loved one? It may even be a combination of things so don’t feel like you have to choose.
Once you’ve figured out what makes you feel confident, work it into your day. This may require you to wake up a little earlier or spend a little money, but if it’s going to make you feel more confident it’s totally worth it!
2. Challenge Yourself
A lot of times we aren’t confident because we fear we won’t succeed. The best way to conquer this fear is by stepping outside of your comfort zone. Start doing things you wouldn’t normally do i.e. tackling something you’ve been procrastinating on, finally completing a 30 day squat challenge, or committing to 21 days of reading a book a day. Start with one small challenge and set a deadline, don’t overwhelm yourself by taking on too many tasks.
By challenging yourself to start and finish something outside of your comfort zone, you are training your brain to believe you can do anything. Now, the next time you meet an obstacle you’ll think “well I went three weeks without buying shoes so this is minor.”
3. The Glass Is Always Half Full
Seriously this is the best way to look at life. Every rose has a thorn, but when you look at the beauty of the flower the thorn is no longer relevant. Apply this to your life by looking for the good in every situation. When your car needs an oil change be grateful you’re not walking, when your coworker annoys you think of what you can learn from the experience, and when you’re running late stay calm instead of frantically getting angry over the elevator taking an extra 2 seconds.
Having this type of positive thinking will improve your outlook on life, and in turn build your confidence. When you stop letting obstacles or nuisances frustrate you, your days are brighter and you’re happier on the inside. Give this a try and see how your life improves.
4. Change Your Environment
This is extremely important. Your surroundings strongly effect your state of mind. If you hate your job, have a vindictive frenemy, or are in an unhealthy relationship, you need to start strategically planning how to escape these negative spaces.
Again, this is not an overnight change, relationships with others and our careers take time and planning to evolve. However, creating an effective plan and taking action will help you create an environment that’s healthier for you. It’s not always easy, but if your confidence is constantly being shattered by certain people or situations it’s best to avoid such negativity.
5. Don’t Beat Yourself Up
You won’t get everything right all the time. You’ll make mistakes, you’ll get frustrated, and you’ll feel defeated. This is natural, but not a reason to give up. When you have a setback, it’s important not to dwell on it, instead take in the lesson and move forward — this ties into the glass half full attitude we stressed earlier. You’re human, and as long as you keep striving to be the best version of yourself there is nothing that can tear you down.
6. Tell Yourself You’re Amazing
Believe you can and you’re halfway there! Take time every day to look into the mirror and say something positive about yourself. Giving yourself compliments will help boost your self-esteem, and make you feel like the GlowGetter you are. Show gratitude for the gorgeous hair on your head and your beautiful smile, whether they meet the media beauty standards or not. We are all unique in our own way, and it is up to us to show the world our confidence first. You are amazing, and the second you start believing that others will too.
